The Windir DVD "Sognalmetal" is almost finished, and will probably be released during june.

DVD POSTPONED

Due to som technical problems with the printing of the "SOGNAMETAL" DVD, the relase will be postponed to April/May. Since Vreid are currnently on a 6 week european tour with Enslaved, the problem can not be fixed before they return to Norway in the middle of March. An exact release date will be given a.s.a.p

We have had a data crash. All mail that has been sent concerning merchandise has disappeared. Everybody who has ordered merchandise through mail has to send a new mail order right away.

A Windir DVD.



After the tragic death of Windir frontman and founder Valfar in January 2004, the rest of the band decided to bury Windir with Valfar. But after encouragement from Valfar’s family, the remaining members decided to do one last Windir concert. The concert took place at Rockefeller auditorium in Oslo at the 3th of September 2004, which is the day that would have been Valfar’s 26th birthday. Rockefeller was sold out, and over 1200 people took a final Farwell with Windir.

This DVD contains the complete Windir concert from the 3rd of September 2004. Windir guitarist Sture did most of the vocals at this concert, but it also includes guest vocals from Cosmocrator(Mindginder) and Valfar’s brother Vegard.

Besides the last concert, the DVD includes Windir liveclips from Gaupne(1996), Sogndal(2001&2) and the Infernofestival in Oslo 2002 to name a few.

It also includes some backstage material, an interview with Valfar from Norwegian national TV and a photo gallery. Vreid guitarist Ese has produced the DVD at Hváll’s Studio 1184 this autumn. The Windir DVD is entitled “SognaMetal” and will be available through Tabu Recordings in February 2005.

Windir is interrested in getting hold of video recordings from our gigs. If you have a video clip lying around, don't hesitate to contact Sture on email.

The farewell concert at Rockefeller September 3rd, was a tremendous sucsess. There were about 1200 people at the concert, and Windir, with Valfars brother Vegard Bakken as a special guest, performed a great show.



Windir would like to thank those who could make it to Oslo this special evening. The band would also like to thank Mindgrinder, Finntroll and Enslaved for honouring Valfars memory with great live-performances!

26.03.2004 Heidra Valfar - The farewell concert of Windir Friday the 3rd of September there will be a last Windir concert. The concert will be at Rockefeller Arena in Oslo, Norway. The 3rd of September would have been Valfars 26th birthday, and we would like to honour his memory by doing one last show. Sture will be doing most of the Windir vocals. We are also glad to announce that 3 bands will be joining us this night. ENSLAVED, FINNTROLL & MINDGRINDER will be doing shows in honour of Valfar. The 3rd of September will also be the release date of the last Windir album, out on Tabu recordings. Tickets can be purchased at www.billettservice.no from Saturday the 27th of March.
04.03.2004 End of an era The loss of our best friend and the founder of Windir have made these last months an extremely hard time. We have decided that Windir will not continue. Valfar created Windir, and we feel that Windir will not be Windir without him. After encouragement from Valfar’s family, we have decided to release one last Windir CD. This will be a CD in honour of Valfar. It will be a 2 disc CD. The first CD will include new material, unreleased material, tribute songs from other bands and live tracks. The second CD will be a compilation of the great music made by Valfar. It will include tracks from the first demo Sognariket to the last album Likferd. Tabu Records will release the album in August/September 2004. We have decided that all income from this CD will go directly to Valfar’s family. We also want to thank all friends, fans, bands, labels and magazines that have supported us in these difficult times. 28.01.2004 Det er med stor sorg me må stadfesta at Terje ”Valfar” Bakken blei funnen omkommen laurdag 17.1.2004. Terje reiste frå heimen sin onsdag 14.01, då han ikkje kom heim blei familien uroa og etterlyste Terje. Laurdag 17.01 blei det me frykta mest stadfesta. Terje blei funnen omkommen ved Reppastølen i Sogndalsdalen. Alle spor tyder på at Terje var på veg opp til familiehytta på Fagereggi. Terje hadde nok ikkje rekna med dei enorme snømengdene, og at temperaturen skulle koma ned mot 20 kuldegrader. Eit godt stykkje på veg mot Fagereggi hadde Terje snudd, og prøvd å ta seg ned igjen. Dette lukkast han dessverre ikkje med. Terje blei funnen like over Reppastølen. Lege og politi stadfestar at Terje ”Valfar” Bakken døde av forfrysning. Ei slik tragisk ulukke med eit slikt utfall har gjort dette til ei vanskeleg tid for familie, band og vener. Terje blei gravlagd ved Stedje kyrkje Tysdag 27.01. Tida framover vil bli tung for Terje sine næraste, og me håpar at de vil respektere at dei næraste får sørgje i fred. Ein stor mann har gått bort, men musikken hans lev vidare. Gje han evig kvile Gje han sjelefred Gje han sælt minne Sakne e endelaust Sadly we have to inform you all that Terje ”Valfar” Bakken was found dead Saturday 17.1.2004. Terje left his home Wednesday 14.01, when he did not return his family got worried and contacted the police. Saturday 17.01 our greatest fear was confirmed. Terje was found dead at Reppastølen in the Sogndal valley. It seemed as if Terje was on his way to the family cabin at Fagereggi. Due to the cold weather and deep snow the trip became much harder than Terje expected. When he realized that he would not be able to reach the cabin, he tried to make his way back down. Unfortunately he did not make it. Terje was found just above Reppastølen. Forensic evidence says that Terje died of hyperthermia. This tragic accident has made these times extremely difficult for his family, band members and friends. Terje was buried at Stedje church Tuesday 27.01. We hope you will respect his memory and let Terje’s closest mourn in peace. A great man has passed away, but his music lives forever. Hváll, Steingrim, Sture, Strom & Righ.

09.12.2003 New Label & Album Great news! After the release of Likferd we received offers from several record labels, both Norwegian and foreign. We had fulfilled our contract with VME, and decided that we wanted to try something different. After months of considering and negotiating, we can proudly announce that we have signed a deal with TABU Recordings. Tabu is a sub division of Tuba records, one of the main music distributors in Norway. Other bands signed on Tabu are Einherjer, Lumsk & Susperia. Valfar and I have already written some new material, and will continue working with new material over the next months. After two successful recordings in Akkerhaugen Studio, we have also decided to try out a new studio. 4 weeks has been booked in Abyss Studio in the period of May-July. 01.10.2003 LIVE REVIEW Live at Rosendal Scene, Trondheim, 27.09.03 Reviewed by Eternal-Terror Magazine Sogndal's store svartmetallsønner Windir's lille Norgesturne kom til Trondheim. Og med seg hadde de sambygdingene i Emancer og Trondheimsbandet Celebratum. Vel 300 oppmøtte fikk en kraftig dose med bra svartmetall, og det så ut til at alle sammen, inkludert bandene, storkoste seg. Rundt midnatt entret kveldens hovedband Windir scenen, og her var det fullt trøkk fra første tone. Valfar og resten av gutta i Windir leverte en helt uttrolig bra gig, og det var et enormt liv i fansen. Vi fikk godlåt etter godlåt, og bandets frontmann Valfar regjerte på Rosendal denne iskalde septemberkvelden. Det var helt tydelig at Windir storkoste seg, og det er nesten så man for lyst til å skrive Sogndal = Trondheim. For det er snakk om akkurat samme type folk. Så for de av dere som trodde trøndere er et eget og litt spesielt folkeslag, så tar dere litt feil. For sogndøler er av den samme typen. Og da er det sikkert et håp om at de kommer tilbake.

25.09.2003 BLACK METAL COWBOYS WINDIR in the US: Just got this picture of Sture and Hváll, from american photographer Peter Beste. The picture is taken in Brooklyn NY, in connection with an interview with New York Vice Magazine. The interview & picture was according to Hváll done after a 24 hour heavy drinking session, where Windir explored the numerous option of drinking places in Manhatten. Interview will be posted as soon as we get it.

18.09.2003 WINDIR LIVE IN BERGEN A new concert added to the Norwegian autumn tour. Windir will headline at Garage in Bergen Thursday the 02nd of October. The show is an apperance at the monthly "Jern og Metall" concept.Support band will be announced later. This is Windirs first headliner show in the Capitol of Vestlandet, and the band are looking forward to unleash their Sognametal in Der Hansastadt!
02.09.2003 LIVE REVIEW FROM THE METALFEST WINDIR Live at the Milwaukee Metalfest 25.07.2003: From the high-energy poptastic sounds of Lullacry to the dark Viking metal of the mighty Windir, the main stage was certainly seeing a great deal of musical diversity. Wearing corpse paint and performing headbanging anthems such as the memorable Dance Of Mortal Lust, Windir easily won over new fans with their compelling live performance. After a much talked about set at Vnuk’s the night before, Windir delivered their tunes to an even bigger house and filled their room with their glorious testaments to an earlier era. Melodic yet delivering unearthly music that sent a chill through the Midwestern summer, the band is nothing short of mesmerizing. Windir may not have been a known commodity before the fest, but live shows such as these make the Scandinavian musicians destined for greatness. At the 24th of Octobe,r Windir will be attending the 1001 Watt festival in Skien. 16.05.2003 WINDIR TO HEADLINE MOSHFEST! Windir will co/headline the Moshfestival in Halden, Norway, Saturday the 6th of September. 15.05.2003 WINDIR TO PLAY IN U.S.!!! Today Windir has confirmed their first ever show in the U.S. Windir will be playing at the Metalfest at Celluar Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Friday the 25th of July. They will also play at the showcase for the festival on Thursday the 24th of July. Milwaukee Metalfest is the largest extreme metal festival in the U.S. Windir will play at prime time in the evening of the 25th of July. Over 100 band will be playing at the festival and among these are bands such as; Dark Angel, Myrkskog, Suffocation, Naglfar, Nuclear Assault, Repulsion etc.. 29.04.2003 Windir shows cancelled!! The shows in Trondheim and Oslo on the 9th and 10th of May is cancelled due to injuries on Hváll and Steingrim. On the evening of the 27th of April, Hváll, his girlfriend and Steingrim was involved in a very serious car accident on the highway north of Oslo. Luckily they only got some broken, arms, shoulder and bashed up bodies. This mean that Windir are unable to do any shows the next month or so. Windir hope to do their cancelled shows this autumn.

24.02.2003 Welcome to the new official webpage of Windir. The daily update of this page will now be done by André Raunehaug (also proposed the design). He has previously been doing an unofficial Windir page. The new album is ready. Likferd will be available in stores from 31 March. Windir are extremely satisfied with Likferd. The album was once again recorded in Akkerhaugen Studio, and the production has turned out to be outstanding. 2 concerts have already been booked, Windir will headline shows in Trondheim and Oslo at the 9/10 of May.

18.11.2002 Windir will enter Akkerhaugen Studio to record their 4th CD at the 28th of December. The recording session will last for 3 weeks. Valfar and Hváll are finishing the new material these days, and the CD will probably contain 8 songs.The title of the CD is not ready yet, but will be anounced as soon as we get it.
24.09.2002 Sogndal gig Uprising Norwegian exstreme metal band Emancer will be supporting Windir in Sogndal 27.09.02. Emancer has released 1 full length CD through US label Extremist records. Emancer are currently looking for a new label.
25.09.2002 Tour Cancelled Quote from Borknagar's forum at Ultimatemetal.com : Unfortunately the tour is cancelled! The Swedish bus company raised their prices 63% and we tried getting new busses from about all other bus companies in Europe but it seems like every band on the planet is on tour at the same time. Last week we managed to get two busses from an English company but guess what? They both broke down during the weekend. One of them is now standing somewhere in Portugal... We're all pissed off about this. Sorry to all the fans and the bands we were supposed to play with, but there was nothing we could do. Aaaaarrrgh!!!! 03.09.2002 European tour Great news! Windir will do an European tour in October 02. The tour will last for 3 weeks, and will include 4 other bands: Borknagar, Finntroll, Susperia and Suidakra. The tour is booked by Metallysee booking agency. Windir will kick-start the European tour by headlining a concert at Meieriet in Sogndal Friday the 27th of September. At the moment it seems that this will be the only Norwegian show Windir will do on their European tour.

05.04.2002 Windir did a brilliant show at the Inferno Festival last Friday. The concert hall which roomed 500 people was totally full, and over 200 people didn’t even get in. Windir played songs from all of their 3 albums. Festival Manager Jens F Ryland stated to NRK, that Windir and 1349 had the most successful shows at this years Inferno Festival. Valfar & Hváll has written a lot of new material for the next Windir CD, but are planing some more live shows before entering the recording studio again. More info will follow as we get them. Windir merchandise is now available. Windir has signed an license deal for merchandise with Razamataz from UK. The merchandise will be available through this web-site. 05.11.2001 The concert in Sogndal Friday was a tremendous sucsess.Windir played 10 songs, and the show lasted for 70 min. Most of the material was based on their new CD "1184", but they also played a couple of old classics. The audience was amazing, and Windir was brilliant. A night of magic atmosphere in Sogndal.

The new CD 1184 was released through Head Not Found/Voices Music & Entertainment the 1th of October. The media response has been brilliant, and you can read more about this in the reviews section. Since Windir now has a full line-up with six members, playing live will be a main priority . The first Windir concert will be in their native village Sogndal the 2th of November.
